Hilde Performance Center

  • Brad Johnson
  • 7:25 pm

The Hilde Performance Center, one of Plymouth’s most recognized landmarks, is a 45-foot tall open-air building with excellent acoustics in an outdoor environment. A glass wall at the back of the bandshell gives spectators a thrill by allowing them to glimpse the natural beauty of Plymouth’s swamps beyond the stage.  The Hilde Performance Center is home to the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, which performs free concerts during the summer.

The bandshell was built in memory of Hilde Ewert, a Plymouth resident and avid supporter of the arts. The Hilde Performance Center is one of Plymouth’s most popular venues for outdoor concerts and events. The Hilde was designed by the same architects who created the Lake Harriet Band Shell in Minneapolis. It features the acclaimed Minnesota Orchestra each summer at Music in Plymouth. The Hilde Performance Center was funded by a $1 million gift from former Mayor Al Hilde, Jr. and his wife, Jayne. From 1968 to 1978, Al Hilde served as Plymouth’s mayor.

The bandshell is home to the Live at the Hilde concert series, which is organized by independent concert promoter Sue McLean & Associates. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, local music legends, up-and-coming superstars, and more have performed at several events during the summer in Live at the Hilde.

The Hildebrandt facility also holds many community events throughout the year, which are open to everyone. Some of these include Kids Fest, Bark in the Park, Movies in the Park, Zoomobile visits, and more. You can check out our Entertainment in the Parks schedule to see what’s coming up next!

Hilde events may take place in the City Center area, and on-street parking is accessible during these events. Although there may be restricted or disabled parking available depending on the event, there is usually plenty of unreserved or handicapped parking in the City Hall parking lot. The City Center is also served by Metro Transit bus routes.

The Hilde Performance Center is one of Plymouth’s most popular landmarks and community gathering places. In addition to hosting the excellent Minnesota Orchestra each summer, the Hilde also hosts the Live at the Hilde concert series, which features rock and roll legends, local music stars, and up
