The Minnesota African American Heritage Museum & Gallery is a nonprofit art museum in Minneapolis, MN, which was established in 2018. Located at 1256 Penn Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411. The museum promotes the achievements and contributions of African Americans in Minnesota and features both permanent and rotating exhibits. Highlights of the museum’s collection include African American soldiers in World War I and II while also showing the influential African American women of Minnesota. There’s always something going on at the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum & Gallery.

Another popular museum in Minneapolis is the Walker Art Center. Founded in 1883 as the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts, this museum houses a unique collection of over 80,000 objects from around the world. Other attractions include the Chinese Garden and the outdoor Target Park contemporary sculpture park. Admission is free, although some special exhibitions require tickets, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. It’s worth spending a day or two exploring Minneapolis’ many museums and galleries.

The Minnesota Zoo is a great place to spend a day with family and friends. It houses over 500 animals and an Imax theater. No matter what the weather is like, the Apple Valley Zoo is a fun, educational activity. There’s a zoo for kids, as well as an open-air exhibit featuring wolverines, coyotes, and American black bears. At the United Healthcare Marine Education Center, you can also find a 218,000-gallon Shark Reef.

Another great attraction in the city is the Flour Tower. Visitors will be transported back in time to 19th-century Minneapolis with the stories of the workers and a flour explosion. The Flour Tower’s observation deck offers a panoramic view of downtown Minneapolis, including the Stone Arch Bridge, which was constructed in the 1880s by railroad entrepreneur James J. Hill.

The museum offers a variety of programs and events. During summer, the museum hosts a music festival called Rock the Garden. Esker Grove, an on-site restaurant, offers delicious meals and drinks and admission is free! If you’re in the area, make sure to check out the museum’s events calendar to plan your visit.

For those looking for a relaxing outdoor activity, Boom Island Park is a great choice. The park’s waterfront location offers several playgrounds, boat launches, and a canoe rental rack. The park was once an island in the Mississippi River but was joined to the east bank after a backchannel was filled in. The park also includes an 18-hole par-73 golf course and a nine-hole par-3 golf course.

Visitors can also tour the Minnesota State Capitol, a historic Beaux-Arts building. Built in 1871, it is one of the first basilicas in the United States and is considered one of the nation’s most beautiful. The chapel is styled after those found in some of the most beautiful rural cemeteries in France. Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and former Governor John H. Pillsbury are buried here.
